Ink on paper is as beautiful to me as flowers on the mountains; God composes, why shouldn't we? ~Audra Foveo-Alba

I've been married to James for 15 wonderful years (really, they
have been wonderful!) We have three terrific children, three
dogs, and an overwhelmed cat. We have also raised cattle,
pigs, and chickens at various times over the years. We would
have gone into the goat business, but I had to draw the line
somewhere.
I started writing in 2000, and published my first short story a
year later. Since then I have authored several short stories,
novellas, novels, and have done a lot of freelance non-fiction
work. I have also worked as an editor.
I have a Masters degree in Special Education, emphasis on
teaching the blind and visually impaired, and a Bachelors in
Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I have taught all age
groups ranging from age 4 to age 18.
A few of my favorite things: my relationship with Christ,
chocolate (of course!), autumn, a satisfying book, good
friends, a sense of humor, people who don't take themselves
seriously, haunting melodies, NFL football, and did I mention
chocolate?

Frequently Asked Questions (yes, I have heard these questions more
than once!)
Will I ever get to read the sequel to Never Broken? I have a special note
concerning this series on my Books page. My one sentence answer is
this: I really, really, really hope so!
Where can I get your books? You can request any of my Avalon books
(see Books page) from your local library or purchase them from
Amazon.com. My anthologies are currently out of print, but I
encourage you to patronize used book stores--there are copies out
there! If you would like a copy of Never Broken, contact me. You can
order Scripture to Live By and my future books from Thomas Nelson
from your local Christian book store, amazon.com,
barnesandnoble.com, and regular brick and mortar bookstores.
Can you speak at my church/library/bookstore/book
club/school/chocolate factory? (just kidding about the last one, unless
there are free samples...) Yes, I love to speak just about anywhere and
talk about my faith, writing, parenting, education, music, anything!
Feel free to contact me for more details.
I have this great idea for a book. Can you help me get it published? I
love answering questions about writing and the publishing business,
and I will be happy to point you in the right direction and give you
tons of resources. However, I am powerless to help anyone get a book
published. You'll have to do that on your own--and what a wonderful
journey that will be!
Where do you get the ideas for your stories? I wish I could say I had a
story idea tree in my backyard where I pluck fully developed plots
when they are ripe, but alas, I can't. My ideas come from many
different sources. I get inspired from reading great books, and
sometimes an idea will spring from them. I also try to write about
themes I struggle with: fear, lack of faith, the tendency to put style
and beauty over substance, the insecurities I (and many women)
experience. Many of my stories blossom from those seeds.
What is your favorite scripture? Philippians 4:13--"I can do all things
through Him who strengthens me. I'm living proof of that verse. "
Who are your favorite authors? This list constantly changes, but I have
a few mainstays: Francine Rivers, Liz Curtis Higgs and Brock and
Bodie Thoene.
Right now I'm enjoying books by Tamera Alexander, Maureen Lang,
Michelle Sutton, Eric Wilson, Julie Lessman, and Susan May Warren. I
have a list about a mile long of authors I like to read and new authors
I want to try. So many books, so little time!
